Self Portrait

Julian prefers using elements like these ribbons ,thorns and spheres in flow and harmony, and at times motion in his work. Julian likes changing things, adding his own dimensions and abstract perceptions.

Julian deals with the real and the abstract. Combining landscape with particular shapes, forms and colors, Julian creates psychedelic scenes that invoke thought, feeling and wonder. The permanence of a landscape is touched upon in his artwork. Julian uses these forms to add dimensions and abstract perceptions, which create a visual stimulation. As Julian searches for his own artistic and self improvement, he strives for the relationship between beautiful forms, color, composition and landscape, and to expose that in his paintings. Julians artworks are fun to look at, the eye can get lost within, the imagination wanders as the shapes, forms and colors are harmonious with each other.

Julian Baslyk was born and raised in Montreal. He began to create abstract, colorful artworks at a young age. He has studied at numerous institutions, including Dawson college fine arts, painting and drawing at Concordia University and studied painting at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, however, Julian considers himself to be mostly self-taught. He started exhibiting in 2009, where he had his first solo show at Gallery Luz, which included 9 intaglio mono prints from his Colored Lines series. He became a member of the Montreal Art Center in 2012, where he has since participated in many group shows, and had a multi-disciplinary show in 2012, called Harmonious Pallets, The Transition of Colour. This exhibition featured many paintings, drawings and intaglio prints. Julian has also had 3 solo shows at cafes. His first in 2010 at Shaika Cafe in N.D.G, Montreal, and his 2nd and 3rd at Chez Freds in 2014 and 2015. He exhibited in September 2014, at the Montreal Art Center, the exhibit was called Celestial Movements and was entirely focused on abstract landscapes paintings from 2013 and 2014, there were 18 paintings on display. Julian has so far had 2 publications, first being in the 2013 version of State of the Art - Artist book, and in 2014, some of his works were published in the Hidden Treasure Art Magazine. Julian considers both his painting and drawings to be a display of patience, and both to be very separate processes, largely unrelated to each other. He now paints on a daily basis.
