Self Portrait

I was born in Kearney,Nebraska but the first three years of my life was spent on a farm about a quarter of a mile from the North Plate River. I come from a family of eleven. When I was 3 years old I almost lost my life when a lawn mower blade broke and went flying thru the air and into a camper wall where I was playing. My left arm was just hanging and my back was torn open. It took over 200 hundred stitches to close the wounds. At the age of 8 years old I started drawing free handed. I would spend alot of my time out in the barn or at my brother's writing desk. I never gave up. By the time I reached 10 years old I started to do wood carvings. My teachers in school had noticed my creativity and asked if they could keep my wooden knife I had carved. To this day I still do free hand drawings, wood carvings, and oil paintings. I do what comes natural to me and what I love to do. I never have too look at a thing to draw; it comes right out of my mind. In 2000 I was in a local newspaper for my drawings, carvings and oil paintings. In 2000 I was asked by a museum to hang some of drawings and place my carvings there. They are still in the museum as of today. In 2004 I was put in the Limon newspaper for my drawings and paintings as well. I have over 400 free hand drawings already done which some have never made it to the eyes of the public. I would like to encourage everyone to draw, paint, carve or anything else they desire to do. Don't let others tell you what to do or run you down. I love to be a role model to children and encourage them as well.
