Self Portrait

I'm a second-year student at Cardiff University studying Ancient History and Archaeology, setting up house with my fiancée Dashka, looking after two crazy house-cats, and working on my dissertation on ancient sexuality and being web administrator for Cardiff University Science Fiction Society. So much to do, not enough time, space or energy...

I enjoy taking photographs when out and about, mostly architectural in nature, but I do enjoy taking photographs of other things too. I enjoy capturing images of an ever-changing world, especially the striking, the usual, and the poignant.

Not-So-Frequently Asked Questions

Jonathan, it's almost Christmas/your birthday/other present giving time. What would you like?

That is a very good question. And one I'm not even sure if I can answer right now. The best place to go, however, if you're stuck for something to get me, is my Wish List. I update it every time I find something I like, and when I receive presents from others. Even if you don't find anything on there, it might give you an idea for another gift.

What is your life-time ambition?

I'd really like to be a character in Terry Prachett’s Discworld. Preferably in Ankh-Morpork. Other than that, it would be to have a nice house in the country, and to have some sort of academic book published.

So, you like Discworld? Is Fantasy/Sci-fi your favourite genre?

No, it isn't. I enjoy it, and I've certainly read more Sci-fi and Fantasy book than any other genre, but at the moment, and for some years, really, my favourite genre has been anything historically correct. Think the Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwall, or the Cadfael books by Ellis Peters. I liked the Regeneration books too by Pat Baker, even if I did develop shell-shock after reading them.

You say you're an Ancient History student at Cardiff Uni. What are you going to do after University?

That's a tricky one. I'm not sure what I'll do. I'm tempted to stay and do a doctorate, but I'm not sure what in. I really really want to study neolithic and pre-history again, as I took one module of that last year and fell in love with the subject. Maybe I'll stay an do something with that as I have no real aims or goals, as far as what I do for a living is concerned anyway. I just want to make enough money to support my future family.

Your cats. You have many of them.

Dashka's mother keeps telling us that. Yes, there are very few university students with two cats. But we love them, we really do. I'm not sure how many of them we can keep, but we will keep as many as we can. To see photos of the cats Bella, Brassie and Sheba their mother (who now lives with my in-laws) you can check out this link to photobucket.
