Do those who participate in the "Art Duel", pay any attention to the "common" word, category ? I seriously doubt even the bot that post the duels does.

Fortunately, we save all the data for every duel has ever been created (over 455,000 duels so far), so we can review the data on the paired images, reason why they were paired, skipped duels, and what happened with the votes. This data allows us to see trends and research our algorithm that picks the images in each duel.
We can say with confidence that each duel does match the data of both images (ie subject, media, gallery or keyword). The problem we have found is that a large percent of artists are not choosing the correct information when they categorize their own images, which leads to mis-matched duels. This could be done on accident or on purpose by the artist. With almost a million images on ArtWanted, it's unrealistic for every image on the site to be reviewed and property categorized by our staff.
As far as the "quality" of the art in the art duel, we are simply selecting random images from those that have been uploaded by our members. We don't have any filters to only choose "the best" images for a duel, as this would not only be hard to determine, but is also subjective.
Due to the popularity of the Art Duel feature, we will be spending more time on this feature to improve it for everyone. Please continue to share your feedback and ideas on how it can be improved, thanks!
I was thinking; Could you not set it up so that the duel selection portion looks for specific words within the information the artist gives when posting their work. Reducing the changes of pairing the dueling pieces with works that do not match. You have the categories section that could be used to do this.
A separate question, what is the difference between Ink and Pen & Ink?
thank you, Lucien
Ink and Pen & Ink is the same thing if that is selected for the Media on the artwork.
