...De Mello Souza, more than an artist he's a colourist, plays with the ludic and has the depth of an erudite. In his 15 years of self-exile in Italy, he could enjoy many expositions of art and fabulous museums, also working as a marchand. In this period, music was of huge importance in his life. Certainly, both his talent and inspiration are born from this promiscuous musical/pictorial mixture. In his work, the ebony and ivory keyboard gives place to the palette of colours, where his dream characters come from, sad characters that seem to invite us to their forgotten world. "Willkommen, bienvenus, welcome..." We seem to hear them sing in fleeting daydreams which would be joyful for any Lacan... As in a fauvist allegory and, at the same time, plain and transcedental, De Mello Souza introduces us his paintings, hybrid Botero's, Tâmara de Lempika's, Salvador Dali's and Rousseau's progeny. Check this experiment which transcription to canvas and ink was so well solved by the artist. "Aufwiedersehen, à bientôt...".

...De Mello Souza, mais que um pintor é um colorista, brinca no lúdico e tem profundidade no erudito. Em seus 15 anos de auto-exílio na Itália, pôde desfrutar de inúmeras exposições de artes e de fabulosos museus e também atuou como marchand. Nesse período, a música foi também um importante “MARCO” em sua vida. E é certamente dessa promiscuidade pictórico-musical que nascem seu talento e sua inspiração. Em seu trabalho, o teclado de ébano e marfim cede lugar a sua paleta de cores, brotando dela seus personagens de sonho, figuras melancólicas, que nos parecem convidar a seu mundo de olvido. “Willkommen, bienvenus, welcome...”, Parece ouvi-los cantarolar, num devaneio escapista que faria deleite de um Lacan... Como numa alegoria fauvista, ao mesmo tempo transcendental e chã, De Mello Souza apresenta-nos suas figuras, filhos híbridos de Botero, Tamara de Lempika, Salvador Dali e Rousseau. Confira esse delírio, cuja transcrição em tela e tinta o artista, soube tão bem resolver. “Aufwiedersehen, à bientôt...”.
