WHEN DID YOU START PAINTING? As a child, I painted in watercolors and made sketches with pencils.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO PAINT? My earliest drawings were inspired from the places that I developed an emotional attachment to. I'd sketch stone bridges, streams, hillsides, stone walls, fences, trees, thatched cottages, country lanes and pathways.
WHY DID I START PAINTING? It was an outlet of expression for me. My childhood situation suppressed my ability to communicate effectively through verbal expression. I think that's why I turned to drawing the things that brought me such comfort. The countryside became my playground and I painted the scenery of how it felt to me.
WHAT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS BEHIND YOUR WORK? Alphonse Mucha's work impressed me as a teenager, More recently, I have evolved to mostly human subjects but there is often an underlying connection, with the natural world, both physically/ spiritually and the universe beyond. Within each creation, I am really painting an emotional connection or feeling of experience or fantasy.
WHY DO YOU PAINT NOW? I love the art of sharing an emotion through a visual interpretation. I have witnessed Art collectors who purchased my original art experience a strong personal connection to it. For me, that is magical and it inspires me. Knowing that one of my paintings is bringing joy into someone's home and daily life because it really means something to them is the most rewarding.
