Phillip Jones was born in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1962, he got his first camera at six. He attended his first photo workshop in the summer of 1970, it was a weeklong event. He learned so many techniques on how to compose a photo. The most important skill he mastered was how to manipulate and bend light.
Jones joined the Air Force 1980 and traveled the pacific. Jones attended Kunsan, Korea Air Force Community College in 1980 where he studied Photography. He took a correspondence course with the New York Institute of Photography in 1982 to learn the craft of the Great Masters. He attended the University of Las Vegas to study Photography in Aug 1983. He was soon offered a job as faculty teaching Photography due to my wealth of knowledge and talent.
During his stay in Las Vegas, around 1983 Jones bought 8 x 10 and 5 x 7 large format cameras because of the unlimited movements and adjustments that were possible, very time consuming to operate.
Around 1986 Jones wanted to create a new unique style of hand coloring photos using techniques that were afforded the Great Masters of the past using dry pigments. In 1999 he moved to Atlanta where he rented a darkroom and bought the needed supplies to develop black and white prints using color negatives. He uses double weight fiber based paper and the result exceeded my expectations.
Jones had his first Black and White Art Exhibit in 2002 in Birkenfeld, Germany where he displayed for the first time hand tinted black and white photos process the Classic Way. Jones has shown his black and white hand tinted photo art at numerous exhibits in Southern Germany over the last 12 years.
From 2009 until 2018 Jones took a sabbatical from the analog world of photography and worked as Chief Photographer in Public Affairs at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany. Jones worked directly with major networks and media outlets; he has taken over 200,000 photographs during his tenure. He has been published on numerous occasions in Medical Journals through out the world, e.g. Army Times, Navy Times, Air Force Times, Marine Times, Medical Magazines, Newspapers, TV, and on Social Media. He has taken photos of Distinguished Visitors including A-list Celebrities, Governors, Mayors, Professional Athletes, Dignitaries, Ambassadors, Senators, Actors, Actresses and many more.
