Self Portrait

Kelly Sasenbery is a local Watercolor Artist that has recently broken into the creative arts scene.

Kelly's paintings are typically, but not limited to, fantasy themes. She has a passion for collecting fantasy objects (fairies and mermaids) and uses them as her muse.

Kelly has 6 years of watercolor experience and has an exciting and distinctly different collection of paintings. She has never received any formal art training. At the age of 23, she began an explorative painting that became her doorway into a new passion for art.

Her style has been described to her from art enthusiasts as slightly abstract, flowing and eye catching. She tends to produce large paintings as she likes to make use of space. "The more space I have to work with the better." She is able to produce more and be inventive with the space. One of the most distinctly common features that stands out in her paintings is that her "Human Like" creatures religiously lack facial features such as eyes, nose and mouth, but rather concentrate on the beauty and form that are present in the lines and undulations of facial structure. "I like to leave the faces blank", she says. "I think it gives my viewer the chance to imagine or feel the possible facial expression based on the mood and colors used of the piece." This self-created style appears as a sort of signature and presents a certain aspect of flow and an ambiance in all of her paintings.

Recently, she has begun to work on commissioning pieces. She has found this task to be a very personal invitation into others introspective visions. The most personal paintings that she works on are what she refers to as "The paintings for me." When she is not commissioning, she likes to work on paintings to add to her collection of mythical creatures.

Kelly is determinedly working on building her portfolio which has 20 completed paintings while continuing to make herself available for the promotion of her art. She is very interested in discovering and getting involved with local art galleries, exhibitions, and festivals. In doing so, she is confident that the experiences she gains lead her further into the depths of her artistic abilities.
