Artist Bio

Stevan Jennis has been interested in painting, drawing,collage and sculpture since childhood. He was inspired by his father,who was an artist and Merchant Mariner. Born in New Jersey,USA the family moved to Los Angeles,California when Steve was eleven.Jennis attended UCLA graduate school, receiving an MA in art,then went on to the University of Massachusetts where he taught and earned an MFA in painting and sculpture. He then moved to New York City to pursue his career as an artist. He received acclaim for his versatile work,in particular his notebook painting series, space paintings and his dog-inspired sculpture and paintings. He moved to the Hudson Valley, upstate New York area in 1996 soon after starting a family. Jennis artwork has been shown nationally and internationally including such places as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of Art, The Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art and many prominent galleries. He is represented in various private and corporate collections. Currently he is represented by Van Brunt Gallery in Beacon, NY and Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, NY. He still resides in upstate New York with his wife,a psychotherapist,his young daughter, and their wire hair fox terrier. He is renovating a three story 1890 barn which he uses as a studio.
