Self Portrait

Susan Diefenthaler Kennedy is an artist living and working in North Georgia. She teaches painting at The Etiquette School in Cumming, Georgia and at the Cumming Hobby Lobby.

Susan specializes in traditional landscapes which evoke a gentle, lyrical feeling; the mountains, marshes, and shores of her native Georgia and of her beloved Edisto Island are favored subjects. Other specialties include still lifes in bold colors, vivid florals and the occasional seascape. Susan’s primary media are watercolor and oil.

One of Susan's goals in painting all of these subjects is to capture the evocative nature of sunlight and the incredibly beautiful design of creation. Her special aim in still life is to portray some of the ideas and the personality of the person behind the still life. Her response as a human viewer to these subjects in nature is the underlying theme of each painting.

Susan’s work has received local and national awards, most notably in the Rocky Mountain National watercolor competition; she has sold commissioned paintings for many years, both to private and corporate collectors. Her loosely representational style is largely self-taught, stemming from her childhood fascination with painting nature in painstaking detail. Her paintings are always done on archival grounds using the most permanent pigments, to assure her collectors of bright and well-preserved paintings for many years to come.

Susan accepts commissions of all kinds and welcomes your inquiry about an original conceived and created from subjects you wish to see on canvas and paper. She can show you a no-obligation sketch or color study of your concept, working from life or incorporating scenes from her own or your photography. For more information about commissioning Susan's work, click on the "visit official website" link under Susan's photo on this page; then the "commissions" link on Susan's site will give you information about the commission process and pricing, as well as how to request references.

Susan shows works at three locations: The Sawnee Artists Gallery in Cumming, Georgia, the Café a la Crème on Peachtree Parkway in Cumming, and the Fish or Cut Bait Gallery on Edisto Island, South Carolina.

She also displays paintings in progress and for sale in her online gallery, www.susankennedy.com. Her site shows her latest studies and sketches and some of her smaller works in watercolor and oil. On the website Susan also offers unique online art instruction in the form of “e-books.” On both ebay and at susankennedy.com, you will also find Susan’s blog with regular postings of her latest work and daily life.
