Self Portrait

Julianna Ziegler (1984-present)

I dont remember a time in my life before I was drawing. My love for nature and creativity has always combined to encourage me to enhance my skills in order to feed my curiosity. I love to explore new mediums and styles, and am continuously inspired by the works of fellow artists throughout the ages. I dont know how to describe my work, because most of it is solely and instinctually from the imagination. My own favorites are the ones that arent planned, but instead evolve as I work.

In pursuit of my love for learning, I finally decided to start school again and am currently a freshman at UHH. I especially enjoy the art history classes, but am not currently enrolled in any studio art courses. I am equally interested in natural and environmental sciences, for nature in itself is so artistic. After growing up in Ohio, I came to Hawaii in 2004 after two previous visits in search of inspiration and adventure, both of which I continue to find in daily experiences. Besides art, I enjoy hiking, traveling, exploring the island, and scuba.

My artwork has been displayed in four shows at the East Hawaii Cultural Center, Universty of Hawaii, Hilo, and can be found at Art in the Ironworks. I enjoy attending workshops from time to time at the Volcano Art Center under the instruction of established artists like Patrick Ching (oils), Pearl Maxner (watercolors), and Vicki Penny Rohner (pastels). Learning new techniques and combining them with experience is an incredible way to encourage the restless, curious inner child.
