Self Portrait

Hi my Name is Matt Campbell, born and raised in Redmond Washington USA (Near Seattle). I am Computer geek by day. My hobbies are Woodworking, Photography and Computers. I love spending time with my family camping, boating and sports.

When it comes to photography I am a late bloomer. Not that 40 is old or late and not because I have not had the desire. I have just miss guided inspiration that I did not act on.

I have been envious of those who owned and could take great photos. I have enjoyed landscapes and action photography most of my adult life. I live in an area that in my opinion is surrounded in natural scenic beauty. Catching the once in a million shot is my goal.

When the digital cameras came on the scene, they were expensive. I wanted one, but just wasnt sure if it would just be another passing gadget. Managing our corporate Information and Technology. Computer related gadgets are what I am into everyday. Always wanting the fastest and nicest computer and software. Since entering the computer arena in 1989 I found myself very interested in Desktop Publishing. I could sit for hours and work on a piece of literature until it was just right and even then I would tweak it a little more. In the late 90s my sons played peewee football and a small company would go from game to game with a large digital camera and a van setup with a PC and color Laser printer. I thought this would be a great job! But never pursued it.

As the years went on I would read different articles on the digital cameras and then a close friend and neighbor purchased a Nikon Coolpix 5700 and another close friend who we went camping with would take countless 35mm slides of everything and everybody. After the campout we then would watch all the slides. It was after those two events that I was determined to have my own camera. The kids were growing up too fast and I didnt want to rely on someone else to capture those moments. So just before the football season in 2003 I bit the bullet and purchased my own digital camera. I purchased A Nikon Coolpix 5700. My main purpose for the camera was to capture images of my family and friends.

Shortly after my purchase I discovered that I really enjoyed capturing landscapes or everyday places that to me looked like art in its natural environment. Be it a flowing stream, water fall or an old truck in the middle of a field of tall grass. As I shared my images with family and friends on my personal website, many of them felt like the images should be shared with others.

So that is what I am doing here, sharing my images with others. Someday I hope to sell some of my work in order to keep up with my addiction and afford the equipment and have to spare time to get those once in a life time photos. I am finding a whole new world out here. I am looking at the world with new found eyes now. When I look at things, I ask myself is this a great photo? I now keep my camera in my car when I drive around. It's when I don't take it that opportunities are missed.

Thank you for taking the time to view my site. I hope my photos say something to you and can be enjoyed by all who view them. I would appreciate any feed back you care to offer.

Matt
