Artist Bio

Aimée D. Robinson is of Puerto Rican heritage and a native of Tampa. She grew up in the old neighborhood of Wellswood, near the Hillsborough River and Tampa Bay. Aimee’s early influences were her mother, Eulalia Caro, a talented artist in her own right, and the rich washes of color found in the subtropical Florida landscapes.

In 1972 she began formal training in commercial art and for many years pursued a career in architectural illustration that gave her works its hallmark of photorealism. By 1996 Aimée felt constricted by her rendering career and took up her brush for personal expression and pleasure. Many of her early works from this period are taken from photographs and are stunning in their clarity and precision. She began exploring the medium of traditional watercolor and the resultant paintings were softer in line, and bolder in color.

Since her early days Aimée has been comfortable creating large works, such as the Tarpon Springs mural painted in 1996, which is still on display. Most recently she completed a commissioned triptych of Mt. McKinley/Denali National Park for a private collector. While her first love is watercolor, she is also accomplished in pastel, dyes on silk, and textile dying. Her most recent passion is painting en plein aire, allowing her to push color limits while imposing its own rhythms of movement and rapidly changing light.

Aimée’s visual interpretation is intuitive, jubilant and evocative. A superb draftsperson and bold colorist, her works display a balance between precision and realism, exploratory creativity and joy.

Most of her work is held in the private collections of clients and friends who are long time admirers of her talent.
