" All we experience in the so called - outside or objective - world, creates an emotional rhythmic response within us." Harry Agema

THEORY:

The basis of music is rhythm. Our bodies overflow with all sort of rhythms. It moves out from from the beating of our heart, creating the pulsation of our arteries and our breath. The blinking of the eyes, swallowing, body movements, etc., all follow a rhythmical pattern. Colour and sound are also inextricably bound to these rhythms. The various rhythmical activities within us create a certain composition. RHYTHM, MOVEMENT, FEELING AND FORM, all relate in some manner to music. In my art I translate these moments into an artistic composition; I suggest a moment of emotional experience.

This process, as explained earlier, is clearly seen in the skin, especially the skin of the hands, where, according to Agema:" The lines and consequent forms created can be read like a musical score, providing us with a sort of map of this inner rhythmical process." In his compositions Agema makes exceptional use of these qualities.
