Artist’s Statement:

From the start, Bronwen’s work has focused on capturing the beauty in nature. Her first love is landscape painting – “I want the composition to be solid, and the viewer to be drawn into the work and to be able to strongly relate to it. When that happens, it definitely feels like a success.” Some of her collectors have stated that they feel as though they could step right into her work.

Bronwen was born in New Zealand and was heavily influenced by the spectacular scenery she grew up with. Her primary career was in technology, leaving art in second place as an avenue for relaxation. Now that she retired from her technology career and has devoted her time and energy to painting, she finds it is both consuming and an evolutionary process. Her style of representational art works well for her.

Her primary media are oils, and acrylics: these allow her to set the mood with her color choices, and capture the scene in a way that will draw her audience to it. She is also and occasional watercolorist. She continually strives to keep her technique loose: she loves to try new subjects so that her landscape work remains fresh. At times she uses texture and paints almost solely with the palette knife: a recent workshop in exclusive use of the paint knife has introduced a looser aspect to her paintings and has given her a greater sense of freedom as she works. At other times Bronwen relies heavily on her brushwork to create the desired effect. She finds art to be always a joyful process of discovery and growth – and this feeling shows in her paintings.

Biography:

Bronwen Chandler is a native of New Zealand and grew up in Christchurch, situated about midway along the South Island in view of the magnificently scenic Southern Alps. Her work has developed through use of different media, and many workshops before and after her primary career in Information Technology. Her work has been exhibited in Virginia, and is currently being exhibited in Florida. She is active within local art groups, and also pursues interests in music and ballroom dancing.

Bronwen lives in Jacksonville, FL and has two daughters, one living locally and one living in Oakland, CA.
