Self Portrait

All my life, everyone else in my family has been able to draw and paint. I couldn't even draw a good stick figure. I thought I just didn't have the "muse". Then in the fall of 2006, I bought a small print by Monet, a simple garden scene, for a quarter and hung it in my office. As I looked at the scene every day, it dawned on me that Monet painted what he saw and felt, not necessarily what every one else saw. I thought, I can do that- not paint like Monet- but paint what I see and feel. So, for Christmas of 2006, I shared my dream and put art supplies on my wish list. My family came through and more, not only with supplies, but with how-to books and DVD's. One year later, I admit it- I'm hooked! I love every phase of painting, from when the scene talks to me, through the internal images that race like a crescendo, to the finale when the painting jumps from the brush to the canvas! OMG, no one told me painting felt like this. Now some of my own paintings reside in my office, along side the little Monet print that changed my life. I hope sharing my paintings may give joy to others.
