Sitting Bear, Arikara

11x14 , graphite, Sitting Bear , Arikara These who could carry the heaviest burden sometimes gave his meat to the poor, in deference to their traditional teaching that "the Lord of life told the Arikara that if they gave to the poor in this manner, and laid burdens on themselves, they would be successful in all their undertakings."

I am loooking in the eyes and look inside the soul of this big Chief. His lines in the face speak of wisdom and his mouth wants to tell, but stays closed in silence. Feeling a soul inside a picture is not given to everybody. You did! That's a gift you should cherish, as that first pencil that toutched the paper and where you always before knew what to do...

Artist Reply: This portrait was one of my favorite to draw, he is full of wisdom, I try very hard to put emotion in my work, that is why I draw people of all kinds, young, old , men and women, I have a great passion for drawing people and feeling through their eyes the story they have to tell, thank you for this appreciation you have of art!
