This is a colored pencil painting I did based on a photograph that I obtained from a photographer I met in the New Bohemia area of Cedar Rapids, IA. about two years ago. I commented on the photograph and he told me that I could have it. He didn't think that it turned out. I said that I would like to make a painting based on it and this is the result. I believe that it is a real town some place in Kansas. Obviously, this town has a great sense of humor. I hope that you also get a chuckle. I welcome any comments you might have about this painting of any of my other works. The dimensions are 8 inches x 8 inches. Again, done on Dura-lar polyester film using Prismacolor Verithin pencils.

Superbly created, and superbly detailed colored pencil artwork Will. :)

Artist Reply: Vernonette: thanks so much! I love detail and feel that this contributes to the realism of a scene like this. Also, I couldn't pass up doing a painting of this...it's just too funny. Have a good day. Best regards, Will

Great American art!

Artist Reply: James: wow! you were busy! This just spoke to me. This was based on a photograph that another person took and had displayed at an art fair. I asked him if it was for sale and he said that he'd give it to me. He didn't like how it turned out! I told him that I wanted to base a painting on it he said that that would be fine with him. Great for me! He said that this is an actual small town some where in Kansas. With water towers like these, this town has a great sense of humor. You have to love the humor, if not the art of the situation. Thanks again. Best to you, Will

Your art is very beautiful, I am glad that we have very good artworks as yours... Congratulations Carl Herz

Artist Reply: Carl: thank you so much for such generous comments. They are greatly appreciated. I was drawn to the humor that this small town must have and so publicly express. Humor is so important to the quality of life. I'm glad that you enjoyed this and my other work. Have a great day. Best regards, Will

Will, this is such an interesting drawing, with many fine details. I agree with you that the town people must have a great sense of humor by the "hot and cold" signs. You are a very talented artist!

Artist Reply: Anne: thank you so much for your nice comments. I'm glad that you enjoyed this piece. It was so fun to do. I wish that I could actually visit this town. Best regards, Will

Outstanding artwork, very interesting composition. Architecture and humor, gotta love it!

Artist Reply: Jane: thank you so much. This town is actually real, although I don't know exactly where. The humor of this little rural town called out loudly to be the subject of a painting. We all need a bit of humor in our lives each day. All these folks need to do is look out their windows. Have a laugh today on me. Best regards, Will

I love it. Love the idea especially.

Artist Reply: Dean: thanks so much! The original photograph just called out to be a painting. I too loved the humor this town must express on a daily basis. We should all live with such a reminder! Best regards, Will

Very nice work, will. I like a good sense of humor!

Artist Reply: Michael: It was the humor in this scene that attracted me to paint this. Humor is important in our lives and I admire this town for openly expressing that it is definitely a big part of their town's character. I appreciate your comments. Best regards, Will

Love this - and the autumnal feel + colours; also the little slant of humour in the piece. My wife loves your work, too. You use detail so well and never labour it or overdo it.

Artist Reply: Tony: always good to hear from you. Thanks so much for your very generous comments. They are very much appreciated. I'm also flattered that your wife also likes my style and subject matter. Best regards, Will

Excellent work on this humorous topic!

Artist Reply: Brenda: thank you so much for your comment. This is a humorous scene, but a real one. This is based on a photograph that the photographer gave to me at an art show. He said that he did not think that his print turned out. I said that I would like to do a colored pencil painting based on it and he said " go for it". By the way, I love your photograph of the gnarled oak tree. Best regards, Will

Artist Reply: Maria Anna: thank you very much for your generous comment. I really do appreciate it. I looked at your extensive work. I see that you do digital art. It is very nice and creative. LOL WILL !!!!! AND ... YOU DO "EXCELLENT" COLORED PENCIL WORK... JUST "TERRIFIC"... JOANIE

Artist Reply: Joanie: thanks again for your generosity! I too got a chuckle out of this. The image just begged to be painted. I would love to find this little town and take a road trip to actually see their "opposing" towers! Regards, Will

Love this picture. There is such atmosphere. Looks like it may be early morning. Love the play on words too.

Artist Reply: Cindy: thank you for your generosity. When I saw the image this painting is based on, it just begged to be painted. I still chuckle at the thought of a town actually having such "opposing" water towers! I'd love to actually find this small town and visit. They must be blessed with a community sense of humor that I suspect would be infectious! Regards, Will
