Earlier this summer we were traveling and we stopped at a small town that had several art galleries that we wanted to visit. Coffee is always my preferred beverage and I needed a cup before we set out to look at art. I went into a nearby coffee shop planning to just satisfy my need for a coffee, but I found far more. One wall of the shop immediately drew my attention. I took a photograph of the wall and that photograph is the basis for this colored pencil painting. The piece is entitled "Bags of Potential" because the green beans once filling these bags required proper roasting to release the flavors and aroma that make coffee so special. The roasting of coffee beans is truly an art in its own right. The piece is done on museum quality Dura-lar polyester film using Farber-Castell Polychromos and Premier Prismacolor pencils. The size of the artwork is 8 X 10 inches.

Fantastic! Will...realistic, simple yet complex.....

Artist Reply: Michael: thanks so much for such a nice comment! I love coffee and this was a pleasure to render. It is simplistic, but it has enough detail that I find this type of subject very satisfying. Thanks again and have a good day. Best regards, Will

Brilliant choice of subject, Will, and beautifully drawn

Artist Reply: Tamsin: Thanks you so much for such a nice comment. It is very much appreciated. I want to say that I'm sorry for taking so long to respond to your comment on this piece, but I somehow missed it up till now! I love coffee, so this was a natural subject for me. I accidently found these bags hanging on a wall...I call this type of find "an unintended still life". Have a good weekend. Best regards, Will
