...warrior (internal self portrait)

Last year this had less energy, no reds and a feeling to me of my power being lost.... i spent a day trying hard to update the feeling of whats inside me. It was a group project last year in my art group. Acrylic and now inks, on box canvas...maybe this will be my yearly updating painting till the end.... : ) PS...total time spent 3 weeks time (so far)

Hey Sher Gal , It's always hardest to get "YOU" right ! LOL :) we are hardest on ourselves here . a real representation is a difficult proposition for anyone attempting it . don't lament that you can't get it the way you see it . noone will know :) Peace and Love Laird Hartley

Tabitha Borges 15 Oct 2005

she stuning and I like the way the red floats around her..

Andrew Diaz 07 Oct 2005

Sher, I know what you mean in the time an artist believes it is done and yet you feel that something special is missing still. This piece is complete in every way, love the depth, realistic beauty of your emotions.

Leroy Drumm 07 Oct 2005

This is good! nice use of color line and the filing of motion! Captivating! Mysterious.

Charles Oliver 06 Oct 2005

That's the 1st thing I thought of "energy". Love the energy of the paint and ink application. The flowing free movement. In the color I see some sultry heat but I also see iciness overcoming that heat. I realize this is a continuum. As the work evolves I'd like to see the reds emerge more as the heat overcomes the cold.

Artist Reply: QUOTE:sultry heat but I also see iciness overcoming that heat.UNQUOTE:::: thankyou Chuck...and yes, as one who is a hermit one moment and a storm the next, not much inbetween, again you saw something others around me see in real life.... and with time i do believe the RED will blast out... : )

Renata Cavanaugh 05 Oct 2005

Nancy Woolweber 04 Oct 2005

A lot of emotion in this one....what are those...double D's? Grinning!

Vivian Allen 04 Oct 2005

Wonderful play of color in your brush strokes! Very active and full of power, yet relaxed and so beautiful!

Steen Djervad 04 Oct 2005

wonderful selfportrait,it look so light and fast, it does sounds like hard work though.

Artist Reply: Thankyou all for the comments... i am very humbled today...... You all gave me wisdoms and colour/wild brush encouragements to procede in the style that is within me..... Its much more inportant to me what we are inside, no mater the emotions and be proud...as i have said many times, LIFE IS SO SHORT that perhaps whats on the inside matters most... Bless you all : )

Alan Kay 04 Oct 2005

Bold and beautiful, but also perhaps reconsidering her chosen role in life, reflecting on what was gained and what was lost. This is reinforced (at least for me, by the eyes focussed to the right, a neurolinguistically significant pose. I enjoy the play on light and dark, and the bold strokes.

Lisa Hill 04 Oct 2005

love the bold colours, its such a statement! great work sher

APELES, Teena. Women warriors; adventures from history's greatest female fighters. (Live Girls series.) Seal Press. 143p. illus. bibliog. index. c2003. 1-58005-111-1. Queens, princesses, and heads of state mingle with pop culture icons such as Wonder Woman, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Powerpuff Girls in this slim, eye-catching volume celebrating mighty women of history and legend. What did Joan of Arc's banner look like? Why did Lozen, Apache warrior women, never marry? What kind of clothes were worn by Boudicca, the Celtic Queen who led a bloody rebellion against Roman rule? Short entries with simple sentence structure combine with generous illustrations and colorful sidebars sure to attract browsers as well as reluctant readers in search of information for biography reports. Each feisty female merits a section called Vital Stats, which lists her full name, how you pronounce it, claim to fame, dates of birth and death, nationality, and cause of death. No flowery prose here, or complex historical analysis; just straightforward facts made fun. Well worth the price for any collection. Very powerful work Sher! I think we all have polaries within...and stuggle with them. I see a good balance here of the blues and reds as well as with the light and shadow, strong strokes and whisps. I think it's a wonderful self portrait. Wouldnt the world be a better place if all did self reflection. Love this piece Sher.

George Wallis 03 Oct 2005

A great strength shows through this image Sher.

Susan Epps 03 Oct 2005

Hi Sher...I think the fact that you are looking out of the frame is quite significant here. The work itself is, of course, exceptional, but maybe the real warrior would stare us confidently in the eye !

Richard Delay Sirs 03 Oct 2005

As usual Sher this is very impressive, bold, strident.. colors are rich and rewarding on the eye. I see no struggle of inner confidence here.. quite the opposite& this work speaks for you&. Please do more for us and post them & we are humbled by your talent&&&.

Steph Salt 03 Oct 2005
