Mission Chest and Indian Bowl Mortar

This wood chest was made during the Spanish Mission days in California. On top is a sandstone bowl mortar made by the local Salinan natives who were "converts" at Mission San Antonio in the late 1700s to early 1800s. Image copyright Cher Peterson. All rights reserved.
