The New Upper Toutle River Valley

Last year, three days after the 25th anniversary of the eruption of Mt. Saint Helens, my girlfriend and I went to visit the legendary mountain. The weather was mostly poor but I managed to walk away with a few decent photographs. I particularly liked this telephoto view of the Toutle River as it cuts a new valley through the layers of volcanic ash. A similar photo appears in the spring issue of Nature Photographer along with my article about my visit to the mountain.

Wow, how breath taking!!!

Artist Reply: Of all the landscapes I saw that day around Mt. saint Helens, in rain and cloud, this was the one that got me excited about shooting.

amazing nature photo Peter. The contrasting colours of the volcanic ash against the green of the grass is amazing.
