Unfinished work

© 2006 Armando Salas.--- Pyrography, laminated gold and oil on wood. --- 1982. My first oil. It's a copy of a classic painting. I did it on wood of a broken locker. I wasn't in a happy time (my father died one month before and my mother had a terminal cancer). I didn't achieve the likeness on Madonna's face and the work remain unfinished (hands on the bottom side, parts without gold...) I link this work to my father, to my mother... I'll never finish it.

Only a soul of grace could paint hands of grace, only a spirit of gold could bring true treasure to this worth, this is the seat of a loving heart, a mother and a son, a son that is the father, a family in it's fullest, we all are family, we belong to each other and each child is this child and each mother this mother and we are all things to each other. Herein is love, the commandment Christ left, "Love One Another". Did he not say we all are his brothers and sisters and all are called to be Saints. Perhaps it does not matter that you think this is unfinished. Christ finished all our work and love on the cross. I feel your pain, it must run deep to the beginning of time and to eternity. Yet! There is no death for those who believe in Christ. You would see your family again in this faith you hold close to your heart and have sorrow for. He promised these things and God can not lie and will never lie. It may seem hard to carry this longing for the ones who have passed on through to the other side. They are not dead, do not die with that thought. As sure as the stars shine in the sky their spirits live...time will come. I pray that you will be united in joy when the hour arrives. Peace in the name of the Highest! Sinseerly CB

Armondo, what a great tribute to your Mom and Dad it is beautiful......made me think of my Dad who passed away 19 years ago of cancer and how glorious it must be for them to be gazing upon the face of the Madona in heaven...thanks for sharing this very moving piece.

Steph Salt 02 May 2006

It's very moving Armando, and especially after reading your story behind it. Not every painting needs to be finished to touch the heart.

Betty Schwartz 02 May 2006

It seems, Armando, that no matter what you paint or draw, you touch the heart!

Tree Pruitt 02 May 2006

Oh, Armando the empty, unfinished places say so very much! I wouldn't have to read the description to "feel" them. My own Madonna -- Mother -- has passed from me. Your sharing brings healing. So very lovely with a touch of moderism from those unfinished areas.

jorge gallardo 01 May 2006
