Fishermen

© 2006 Armando Salas. --- I've a lot of troubles with my PC and decided to reformat the hard disk and reinstall the damned Windows XP! But before, I must to dump 150 Gb to an external drive. This means, my computer is using all the resources for this task. Too slow to work at the same time. Free time to do new things!!!:-)))--- I always thought the colored pencils were "something for children" until I saw the Brigitte Hintner and Peter Kripgans' artwork :-))) And I took the colored pencils I bought 7-8 years ago and never used, to do this drawing. It's my FIRST work using this technique! :-))) "FISHERMEN", colored pencils on paper. 45,5 X 32,5 cm.

This is full of grace, the Group. Feeling of the sea. Work very bad and solitary...Great composition and colours. Bello and intrepid. The Life. Woderful. José

Carolyn Taylor 30 Jun 2008

I have just searched all your images. The lady with the stars on her chest was already among my favorites. I guess the poster about the death of Anna Politkovskaya was the one most familiar--so glad you did it.. (She was wonderful--and almost as hard to kill as Rasputin--but they finally got her.) The above painting is lovely! I nominated it for Pic of the Day. You are an astounding personality and artist.

Beautiful painting, not only because of the colors but mainly because of the emotion. I see strength of human in the force of nature.

My son bought me a case of coloured pencils a few years ago. Like you they are still unused. The color always seemed so pallid. You have once again showed that this need not be so.Fine work Armando.

Artist Reply: I should like you'll try to draw something with colored pencils. And this is a challenge, my friend!!! :-)))

Andrea Herrera 19 Jun 2006

You should use colored pencils more often, I have not seen such amazing work with colored pencils as these are. They are so warm and they invite me in with colors and texture. I feel in awe as they seem to be done with regular crayon but the shading is wonderful.

Artist Reply: Yes, Andrea, I plan to paint something more with pencils this summer: One work about mermaids, and another about pilgrims. This became a vice!!! LOL!:-)))

Doris B. Lambling 18 Jun 2006

hope it's the beginning of a long lasting 'love story' - pencils seemed to be made for you -great :))

Reba McDonald 17 Jun 2006

A great image Armando.

Richard Delay Sirs 16 Jun 2006

What an amazing "first"... Bravo my friend...

K L Marsala 16 Jun 2006

i like the strength found within the arms and line design. the sharp intensity in their faces give way to the creation and feel

Tabitha Borges 16 Jun 2006

what great shading and stegth./..wonderful work..

Jean M. Laffitau 16 Jun 2006

This is your first?? Man.... you are GOOD!!!

Artist Reply: Yes, my first one using this technique. I always considered the colored pencils were "for kids" Hmmm... Brigitte and Peter, please excuse me :-))) And I liked the experience. I plan to do more this Summer. And in abigger size :-)) (perhaps 70 X 50 cm) Thank you, my friend.

Ginger Lovellette 15 Jun 2006

Aris Stathakis 14 Jun 2006

Alberto D'Assumpcao 14 Jun 2006

A masterpiece, Armando!!! Do you know thw work of the brasilian painter TOM (Tomás de Melo)? You'd like to know his work!

Artist Reply: Boa noite, meu amigo Alberto! No, I don't know that artist but just right now, I'll try to find him (wonderful Google!:-))) I hope it'll be a easy task... my computer works too slow due a data dumping I started two days ago:-(((

Betty Schwartz 14 Jun 2006

Since you have a true artist soul, Armando, it seems that no matter what medium or technique you use, perfection will result! Bravo! Me gusta mucho!!

Brigitte Hintner 14 Jun 2006

Oh , Armando I'm totally flattered by your kind words about pencil work .......I also meant this media is for children but you can do all that you can do with oil or acrylic or watercolour paint and the effects are always amazing and once you start you never know how it will end ! But in general I love to paint with acrylic ....I have always enjoyed putting any kind of medium together so sometimes I love to mix pencil and acrylic ! This one is beautifully done and I can see you're a very good drawer ! Bravo !

Bobba Quimba 14 Jun 2006

these colored pencil works are wonderful, all shape, line, movement. I would like to see you illustrate a kids bible or something like that. They remind me a bit of Diego Rivera one of my all time favorite painters

ellen blockley 14 Jun 2006

WOW! What a beautiful drawing! Great compositon, colors and your lines and marks are fabulous. I especially love the faces.

Christine brand 14 Jun 2006

Very Expressive work...I love the Dynamics in this...and the emotion...the fish blue and brimming to the tops of the gold net...the sky full of billowed clouds and the turbulent lines of the waves...the strong arms of the fishermen intent on the harvest of the sea...the little lantern ...a Fabulous Piece... Man Do!!!

Terry Harris 13 Jun 2006

Love the style and medium you used!

Elton Houck 13 Jun 2006

You are a master at colored pencils...i use them all the time...you do great work with them! do not let the medium shame you...heck, i use ball point pen, furniture stain, shoe polish, blood, idodine, animal spirits, tar, sand , feathers, chalk, spray paint, and i have even used cake coloring...we are the artists--we deside what is appropiate and use it even if the higher critical writers (which are non-artists) should dissapprove...i say if you want ot paint on the sidewalk with watercolor--go for it!!!

Kukua Akumanyi 13 Jun 2006

Excellent, great to see the completed "working in Progress."....I feel inspired now to do some pencil work too- I hust check out Brigitte Hintner and Peter Kripgans' artwork too.

Artist Reply: Undoubtedly you could do something beautiful due to your elegant style, Ekua. I'm glad because today several artists felt inspired by this work. Perhaps I'm not a source of inspiration... perhaps I'm only a virus :-)))

Greg Vilton 13 Jun 2006

Great style and beautiful colours, Armando! You should definitely go further with this technique.

Analua 13 Jun 2006

Christi Werner 13 Jun 2006

I did the same thing to my pc a couple of years ago to try to get it to run faster (after my teenage son showed me how :) worked great, hope the same for you! terrific technique, & excellent designed pencil drawing!

Artist Reply: Can you please loan your son for a while?:-)))

jorge gallardo 13 Jun 2006

Excellent! Just plain Excellent! Do more pencil drawings...And it sounds like your hard drive in your computer is going to die....Back everything up imediately, which you're doing. And get ready to buy a new hard drive...Time to upgrade.

Artist Reply: Yo haré más dibujos a lápiz... si tú vuelves a coger los pinceles. ¿Hay trato?

Loredana 13 Jun 2006

Lucia Stewart 13 Jun 2006

A masterful piece, excellent pencil work!!

Cristina Marsi 13 Jun 2006

Fantastic work, Armando... makes me want to try something in pencils too ;) I think i said already how much do i like movement and composition, now the coloring makes me go wow! And it is huge too... doesnt your hand hurt after som much coloring?

Artist Reply: After more than 40 years drawing with pen and ink (this means a certain rigidity in hand at work) the use of colored pencils or brushes is really a vacation for the hand:-))) The hand doesn't work, only dances... :-))) Although just today I have pain in my hand (I burned two fingers with a halogen lamp:-((( Huge??? I plan to do this Summer 1 or two more, but size 70 X 50 :-)))) Thank you for the comments. And try the pencils; it's a new experience, at least for me.
