Last Chance

Eleven miles past this gate and an elevation gain of over 2000 ft. is the Sunrise Visitors Center. But the campground road was still open and a couple of trails still accessible...but not for long. On this day we stayed close to the river. As you can see, we had the place to ourselves. The following week we decided to do the trail from here to Sunrise. The same 2000 ft. gain in a little over 3 mi. I can only tell you that it was a strange feeling to be in the normally very busy place, that was totally deserted and closed up for the winter. The birds were glad to see us. (I left the camera in the car on that day...DARN!!!)

There is a large state park near us that boasts camping/fishing/hiking etc. and I understand what you mean about how wierd it must have been to have it so empty when you went to this place. Kind of cool though to have that opportunity.
