In The Clouds

Sometimes when it's cloudy down in the lowlands you can get above them as you climb into the mountains. The sky can be totally clear 10 miles from our house. This day we were IN the clouds at 7000 ft. and couldn't see much of anything most of the time, except for occasional breaks in the clouds. We did have a nice workout to the 1st Burroughs Mt. where usually Mt. Rainier is so close you can touch it. We know this trail very well and are aware that it's a 300 ft. drop to the valleys below in many places. During most of the hike it looked like you could step off the side of the trail into an infinite abyss. This photo is the Sunrise Lodge and parking lot where 8 cars were parked and 3 of them belonged to workers boarding up windows. The season is winding down.... The second shot is the trail on the ridge where it is 300+ ft. to the valley below. It's funny how fog causes you to narrow your field of vision and focus on what's in front of you instead of the total view.

Breathtaking, Mary. I love the fog and the cool weather. Sometimes I think you are so lucky to have that kind of moisture. I think I could live there. The photos are exceptional. You are a great photographer and naturalist. I am glad we are friends.
