Esmeralda and Friend

I have always loved this picture taken by Mark Barrett. Recently, I asked the photographer if I could paint this photo and he said yes! A huge honor for me, this will be submitted to Horses in Art magazine. I hope it gets in!

hello Jen, very gentle and sensitive work. you have a nice touch with pastel. I know how difficult it is to get detail with that medium. Have you tried colored pencil yet? Similar results but big difference in the ability to get razor sharp details.

very nice feeling in this work. I love it when the horses let you hold them this way. some just aren't comfortable letting you do this. I am luck that my two let me do this alot my mule actually asks to have her head held. Youv'e captured that moment well. good luck with the submission to the mag. I get it so i,ll watch for it.
