Saskatoon Train Station

This is a commission that I did a few years ago. There were so many angles and details in this that I really didn't think I would be able to pull it off. Heaved a major sign of relief when it was finally finished. It took weeks to complete. I'm an abstract gal at heart!

This is very poignant, Ruth. Having done several train stations myself, i agree that the details are a bit wearing, but you followed through and finished it nicely!

So clever!!!!! It is a little unnerving when you attempt something new and think it's not going to work out! You did a great job!!! :)

Artist Reply: Kathie, At the time I did it, I had only been painting for about a year. Abstract wasn't my thing yet so it wasn't really new but it was really difficult and it was one of my first commissions so I was a bit freaked out about it. Thanks dear!

Whoa, Ruth, this is Awesome! I know what You mean by how difficult this would be! You conquered a mighty challenge, indeed! One of My commissions involved painting some realistic skunks on a stone once upon a time. It was a challenge that turned out as well! I know what it's like! I think I'll stick to Abstract! Excellent Work,Ruth!

Artist Reply: Thank you so much Chris! I have to admit it drove me insane! There is just no freedom of spirit, and you feel so restricted. Some people think too that if you are an abstract artist that it's easy, something that a two-year old can do....reminds me of this quote by Wassily Kandinsky: ""Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential." Glad your skunks turned out just as well! Have a great Sunday!

Wonderful detail and careful technique. The composition is solid. I have a soft spot for architectural paintings. They can really have abstract details if you don't get too hung up a perfect representation. After all, it's only a point of departure for the artist's creative energies.

Artist Reply: Thank you David...so true. It wasn't just that it had so many angles but I also had the challenge of perspective. Took a little artistic license and added the tree and some scattered weeds to add some interest. All in all it didn't turn out too badly and the customer did love it. Would I do it again....I don't think so...well, you never know!
