Autumn Leaf Ballet

The beauty of Autumn leaves dancing on air and ground, enchanting to watch. Something I never get tired of watching. The last dance of the year before winter comes to play, one last performance before retiring. This is a digitally painted work that is not a photo or photo manipulation. I used my electronic graphics tablet, a Wacom, and a wireless pen. I used the art software, Corel's Painter X to paint this. That means I drew it, chose the mediums, brush sizes, colors, mixed blends of colors, and did every brush storke. This is not the result of a program that auto converts the photo to a painting. I enjoy painting it myself and exploring what I can do and learn. I often use mediums mixes that you can not use together with real materials to get the look and results I want This one had oils, pastels, chalks, watercolor, and several other blends to get the texture it has. Often this means I wind up painting it with several layers of mediums to get the final results. Fortunately, I don't have to wait for the paint to dry, so can speed up the work. It still takes hours of work to complete it. I hope you like the reults of this one.

Truly magnificent photographic artwork. Very fine composition and technique. The perfect contribution to the Artist Group - Leaves.

Artist Reply: Thank you Lynn! I'm glad you like this leaf painting. It took forever to get the details realistic, but it was worth the effort.

Great textures, colors and contrast!

Artist Reply: Thanks Jerry! I love contrasting the lighting and colors, this one worked well for a painting composition.

Fabulous capture Terry, excellent clarity and the colours are WOW!

Artist Reply: Thanks Kathie! When I paint I often try to get a realistic result, and this one was one that worked out well. The photos I used for references were ones I took, and I combined a few ideas to create this painting.

Great composition, wonderful colors!

Artist Reply: Thanks Joan! I look for great lighting and color interest when getting reference photos. I then look over the photos and chose the best from several to get the right composition for a painting.

Lovely leaves,Terry we don't have autumn here.Perpetual glorius summer.

Artist Reply: Thanks Ginia! I've lived where there wasn't a Autumn season or winter before. I do miss seeing it, as I have for many years before moving this summer. It's a wonderful time o the year, even though I'm allergic to moldy leaves. LOL! I hate to not go out to see them, taje photos, but usually suffer afterwards. I'm still recovering from my outings. It was so worth it!

Terry, you have me so curious about using my Corel software. I have the whole family of it and find myself continuing to go to what I know best which is Photoshop. I guess it is an old habit but you do such brilliant work with it, I know your immense talent is most of it but the tools are a powerful part of creativity and the Wacom always proves that to me. Brilliant image and such a great painting. How long was the cleanup.....Ha Ha. That is what I love about the Wacom and computers. Love this work and thanks for always sharing your feelings about the work. I feel like we are talking over tea when you write the narrative of the work. Michael

Artist Reply: Thank Miguel, I love being able to give a bit of me in the write ups. I think that is one of the best things an artist can do, it gives the viewer more insight on the work and artist. I practice and play with the software brushses and mediums constantly so I can learn to be beter. I like to try experiments and get some great results. Sometimes I force myself to try a new medium or brush style just to learn it, even if I don't perfer to use it. It has helped me learn so much that I will continue to do it. This painting was from a great photo I took, but it challenged me to paint it as well. All the contrasting lights and shades beckoned me to try to do it. I loveworks with it, the dramatic results. This one was tought to do, but oh the results and joy of finishing it! Makes me have to strive harder and learn more, Bam! Take it up a notch! LOL!

really fine image created--nice detail

Artist Reply: Thank you Joe so much! This one took a whie to finish with all the detail and lighting contrast. It was a tough challenge for me to do, but by doing it, I learned so much. I will have to do more.

Blue Doll 06 Nov 2007

this is very very beautyfull....

Artist Reply: Thank you Blue Doll! Some see leaves as a mess they will have to clear, I see beautiful movement, design, color, and wonder. The child like emotions of watching them fall and dance in the wind, priceless.

Emily Reed 06 Nov 2007

AHHHH, TERRY, WHAT A BEAUTY!

Artist Reply: Thanks Emily! I will have a few more ready soon.

John Swift 06 Nov 2007

Unbeliievably realistic and beautiful, Terry!

Artist Reply: Thanks John! I love that I can get the perfect colors I need. That is always the hardest thing when painting with real mediums. The art software allows me to mix my own palettes up and I get the colors I want.

Anne Vis 06 Nov 2007

Beautiful shot, Terry!

Artist Reply: Thanks Anne! I always waver on rather to post a beautiful photo or to paint it. The photo I used for reference was perfect, but it challenged me to paint it. The contrast of light was one I wanted to take on, so glad I did.

Linda Bertiaux 06 Nov 2007

Yes I do enjoy the results. It looks just like a photo!! Excellent work, Terry.

Artist Reply: Thanks Linda, you can see brush strokes when it's enlarged enough, but it's hard to see it on the sites image is limited. More leaf works to come soon.
