Senseless and Heartbreaking (please read info)

These lovely creatures are called Elands. I know the title of this photo doesn't fit the picture and this is why. I saw the news this morning, wish I hadn't!!! Some A-HOLES broke into the Zoo last night, they cut open the Spider Monkey Cage, Killing the male monkey and stealing the pregnant female. They were the only two spider monkey's they had. I just can't understand the senseless violence against a harmless animal. I have to say, I cried when I heard this news. I seriously hope they catch this guys and toss em to the lions and tigers, probably they wouldn't even want to eat that kind of filth!! I wanted this to be just about the Elands but I did not have any shots of the monkey's to post. In hearing about this news, I looked up the Website and found out that they have a photography group that gets together and does posters and what not for the Zoo, today I am going to go down and join this group, if nothing else, I hope that my small contribution can help the Zoo provide better facilities for all the fantastic animals that call this place home. If you care to see the website the addy is. www.gvzoo.com Elands, Taken in Aldergrove at the GVZ, B.C.

What a grand shot and a fantastic story so very sad that the world has to have such filth that is given the right to breath the same air we do. Sad that they are able to walk amounst use wish god would put some kind of sign on them so they could be spotted and disposed of before they can do any harm. Great capture of these beauties and hope you were able to get that job and help out I don't have the plesaure of having such a grand place to go to and for those who do they should enjoy and help every change they get reather then distroy.

Artist Reply: The elands are beautiful creatures, I like that they have a look that they are smiling. I very much agree about people who do such things. My work at the zoo will begin next month, its volunteer work that a few photographers have gotten together to help out. Thank You again for such a thoughtful comment Gerry.

Lovely Elands, Pamela..............awful, awful about the monkeys. What drives anyone to commit these atrocities is beyond me..............sickening. I'm glad you're able to focus your anger and disgust in a positive way to help the other animals though.

Artist Reply: I'm with you on that one, what does make someone snap. It could have been a gang dare or teens that thought it would be funny to steal the monkey until they got there and found out that the mate would put up a serious fight. I can only shake my head and hope they do catch them or at the very least, can get Mia back home. Thanks for adding your thoughts to this post, I appreciated it Jacki :)

What a horrible thing to do! I just don't understand such people! It's wonderful that you will join the group, Pamela!!

Artist Reply: Hi Anneke, thanks so much for adding your thoughts on my post. I did head out there yesterday, but they were so busy with the media, I will have to go back next wk when things cool off down there. Thank you again for adding the Elands to your art choices. :)

What a splendid capture... Such crimes against animals are done by sick people, Pamela. Sad story to go with your photo.

Artist Reply: Hi Nira, thanks for including your thoughts on my post. I know they are sick people, but really, even sick, who wakes up and decides to go kill a monkey and kidnap the other. I hate to say it, but I believe this person or persons will end up killing the female too, she would be to aggressive to be able to do anything with her. Her and her mate had been at the zoo for 15yrs, they were both 17. Thanks again, I really appreciate your comment!!

Awwww Pamela. It's hard to believe we have such people in this world. Thank you for sharing the Elands and the Spider Monkey story with us.

Artist Reply: I agree and what's worse is our laws if they get caught, a fine maybe or a couple yrs of jail time. Nothing is going to replace those two sweethearts that greeted you as you walked into the zoo. I'm sorry it was such a sad post, but at least the Elands make up for it a little :) Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts here, Sharon.
