Matador

Matador is neither man nor a bull but an ideal of physical perfection and vitality shared by the mortal and immortal alike, just as the heroes of both history and mythology. His hollowed eyes seem to gaze at some unseen but powerful threat. His pose, watchful and meditative, suggests the drama of the moment& Dark passions of the human mind : fear, suspicion and cruelty stand revealed here. Still we must not mistake the artists intention. It is not a detached interest in the physical aspect of the event alone but the desire to unite motion and emotion and thus to make the beholder experience the suffering of this victims cruel fate. The deeply felt poetry expressed in Matador, invites anyone with an open mind to acquire the courage of his own convictions. By S.C.
