Swarm of Honey Bees

During mid day this swarm of bees landed in a tree in my backyard. They stayed the night and where gone by next morning. When a Bee colony becomes too big, a new young Queen will split apart from the mother colony to establish a new one. Some of the other bees will go with her to help establish the new colony. This is the natural method of propagation of honey bees. Two weeks after the swarm I found where they had set up shop and they are doing fine.

Neat shot--my brother's father-in-law is a bee keeper and I have helped with bee work--in winter I have patted hundreds of bees in hive with palm of my hand and only in winter will they not attack if you touch them.

Awesome, but a little bit intimidating... I'm glad you took the picture and not me!
