THE CONCEITED LITTLE RAT

© 1986-2010 Armando Salas. Classic fairy tale cover from 1986. I painted TONS :-) of fairy tales in the 80's. Children could read the tale but cut and paste "pieces" also.--- I was searching on Internet for translation for LA RATITA PRESUMIDA (Spanish name) and just found this Youtube video. It's funny because I had that "movie projector", the same, when I was a child :-) OMG! Memories...! ----- Upper image: THE CONCEITED LITTLE RAT. Tempera on paper. Bottom image: Page and pieces to cut+paste. Pen, india ink and gouache.

Your creativity is beyond imagination! I loved these cut and paste pictures too! :) I bet many children would still leave their computer for such books.

AWWWWWWWWW WHAT A SAD END TO THE LITTLE RAT. VERY CLEVER, HOWEVER. AND ALL IMAGES ARE OUTSTANDING, ARMANDO. THANK YOU FOR SHARING THESE AND THE YOUTUBE.

Didn't know rats could be conceited, but then again, illustrating all the human qualities we all posses is quite a feat in your hands. Job well done!

This comment was written by Nelly van Nieuwenhuijzen (Sorry, I deleted it by mistake) ----- that man rat is sooo proud, love to see how he is walking away.....you are such a great artist ARMANDO!!!!! will open the video later, curious now, but guests are surrounding me, little mouses..

Artist Reply: Not sure I'm a great artist since you see a MAN RAT where I put a MAN CAT :-))) LOL!. By the way, since we are talking about mice, you can serve cheese to your guests :-)

Your illustrations are as cute as ever! Love her dreamy eyes! The video is adorable. I never saw a machine like that. I only had one of the plastic, where you looked thru and had to click all the time :-))) Yes, memories :-)

Artist Reply: Hi, Trixi. I remember another one. It was a kind of binoculars. People put inside a transparency: the same image twice but one of them was displaced to achieve the 3D effect.
