Fresco Painting, Knossos

This appears on a vase but it is a copy of a fresco uncovered at the Palace of Knossos in Crete - the ancient "labyrinth" of the Minoan civilisation, now thought to have disappeared under a huge tsunami when the volcanic island of Thera (Thira) blew itself apart. This fresco could be as old as 19th century BC. It seems incredible to me that people of such early antiquity (the Bronze Age or before) were capable of such beauty in art.
