Pigmented ink, digital print on Somerset paper. (archival quality) This is the final work in the series 'Children of the rising Sun', The title'Binding Words' refers to the idea of a contract. However this is a contract or obligation that was passed from generation to generation. I refer to the practice of foot binding. There were so many societal constraints afforded to the family that did not carry out this practice,in respect of their female members that it endured right through until the middle of the 1900's. Needless o say it caused much pain, misery and additionally acted as a form of social control, reinforcing societal inferiority and status.
