Woman on a Staircase 3

I'm not quite sure why I keep choosing to paint such challenging studies. Costume designer Victor Rossi very kindly gave me permission to create this painting, along with the photographer and model. Having gone to some trouble with obtaining permission from the various professionals involved, I really wanted to make this painting work. I quickly realised what I had taken on, and there were times along the way when I didn't think it was going to pan out. The staircase was very difficult, not just because of the perspective and movement, but also because of how dark it was. I had to figure out how everything worked together, and then build in some aerial perspective. Skyler's pose is incredible, but needed a bit of softening down for the purposes of the painting. I reckon the painting took about 30 hours to complete, but it does look pretty striking on our living room wall! I'm most obliged to Victor, Sam C. and Skyler McLeod for collaborating with me on this artwork. I really love Victor's designs and hope to work with him again. 24" x 36" (with 1.5" painted sides) Acrylic on box canvas, March 2014
