Positively 4th Street

Years ago, West 4th Street was the subway stop to meet friends at the Riviera Cafe. The place where Lou Reed kicked John Cale out of the Velvet Underground. Andy, Mary, Bob, Kevin, and other friends converged to carouse and consume large quantities of alcohol. Today, I still often get off at this stop for Jazz and independent film. The Village cigar store on 7th ave, Cafe Reggio, and the Cherry Lane theater are some of the few remaining vestiges of the Village. The Riviera cafe is long gone as most of the friends that I met there. However, the street musicians have remained like this Sax player with the menacing eyes who you don’t want to mess with. Although, I did slip him a ten-spot.
