Thirty-fourth president of the U.S. (1953-1961), Dwight D. “Ike” Eisenhower was a 5-star general in the Army during World War II. As president, he authorized the establishment of NASA, instituted the Interstate Highway System and signed The Civil Rights Act of 1957, integrating southern schools. He died in 1969 at the age of 78.
