This painting in oil is from the Sunday before last, which was the Sunday before Easter. It was painted in studio from the still life using only natural lighting, which is Northern light coming through the skylights. There is a lot of brushstroke visible on this painting, good texture and rich color with the pure paint put on. The color is more teal on the books than the blue shown in the scan. In the painting are some old books, some grapes, a green apple and a liquor bottle. I especially like the books against the apple on this one. The books were surprisingly hard to paint as the angles and perspective of the books had to be just right. I tried to keep the looseness and the painterly feeling of impressionism while still keeping the structure of realism in the painting. The effect of the shadows and the pages of the books came out nice on this one.
