Rich blues and festive contrasts of cream tangerine. The ribs give it rhythm. I am reminded of work by Rembrandt and Bacon. Carnivore is close to carnival and by their original meaning, carnivore means to indulge in or eat the flesh and carnival refers to a time of lent when you purposefully refrain from the flesh. It is the feasting and indulgence before carnival that the word has evolved to mean in common usage.

this is very thought provoking. i really like the fact that you let the viewer make their own assumptions, as i feel the same way if i'm looking at, or creating art. i will say personally this stand out to me because i'm a vegetarian. this to me shows the 'inside' view of not only the animal, but what they look like in the slaughterhouses. sort of exposing the truth of views people may not get to see. or don't want to see. this to me evokes something very raw, and stripped down. on another note, the choice of blue at the top really pops out, yet doesn't distract from the main subject matter. if i saw this for in a gallery, i would look at it for a long time. wonderful work John! very impressive

Artist Reply: you and tim definitely get this. thanks very much for your insightful comments. I grew up in a vegan lifestyle...then slipped into an occasional steak and lobster dinner. Now...I even indulge in Sushi. I am lost to the flesh. This mistake will most certainly cost me many years of life in the long run. I have no doubt that meat consumption in this age of civilization is as deadly as smoking three packs of cigarettes a day.
