This is the third and last pastel work of the series I've dedicated to California's seascapes.
Marin Headlands refers to the area just north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge in Marin County. Much of the area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The headlands afford spectacular views of the City and, as such, is a very popular tourist attraction.
The steep hills you can see on this painting sometimes create their own clouds when they push moist, warm Pacific Ocean breezes into higher, colder air (see Wikipedia for further info).
The main artistic challenge here was to render depth and distance. It was also great fun to paint these clouds that look so particular. Thanks in advance for dropping an eye on my work!
