The Vista from Dege Peak

Dege Peak was one of the first hikes out of Sunrise that my daughter and I went on when we first started hiking seriously 5 years ago. It's not very difficult and only 2 miles to the peak, so a good hike for good friends to visit on. The peak itself is at 7000 ft. and the 360 degree view is breathtaking. On this day the mountain was mostly clear, but as the afternoon progressed the clouds moved in and the temperatures dropped. In the distance (on the right) is the Sunrise Visitors Center. The interpretive center, restaurant, gift shop and flush toilets are all closed now. The gate 11 mi. below will be closed next week. But you can still reach this place by trail (strenuous hike) until the first heavy snows. Take note of the 3 sandy-looking mountains just past the parking lot. These are the Burroughs Mts. that we hike often. My daughter and I hiked to the 1st Burroughs four days after this hike...will post tomorrow. The second photo is of Grand Park. See other Grand Park photos for more information... :)
