The Top of 1st Burroughs Mountain

Three photos back I refered to the Burroughs Mts....this is the top of the first one. There are no trees, no large rocks.... it is much like the tundras of northern Alaska and Canada. On the side we came in from it is a 300 ft. drop into the valley of Berkeley Park. On the other side it's 2000 ft. down to the base of Mt. Rainier where the Emmons Glacier ends and White River begins....tomorrow's hike. The weather can be brutal up here and this day it was a constant drizzle with 20+ mph winds, especially at the top. We've hiked in worse conditions, but it was a reminder of hikes to come as the winter approaches. We sat on the ground along side the trail to eat lunch and hoped that mountain goats might come out of the fog and not notice us. That would have been some very cool pictures. Oh, well, not this trip....
