FLAPS UP

JUVINILE PINK FLAMINGOS - EQUADOR - GALAPAGOS ISLANDS - ISLAS ISEBELLA----The juvenile pink flamingos are gray, black and white. Only turning pink as they mature as a result of their diet of shrimp. The juvenile in this image is in transition and beginning to get the pink feathers. As they become adults they will become completely pink, dropping all their gray, black and white feathers in favor of pink. A wadding bird they prefer shallow lagoons and salt flats where they will stick their heads in the water and scour the bottom with their beaks for shrimp. To see hundreds of these birds together is a breathtaking sight to behold.
