ZEBRA'S IN THE MIST

AFRICA - NAMIBIA - ETOSHA---------Down at the nursery juvenile elephants confer on matters of childs play. The dark spot on the cheek is a musk gland, when they become adults this releases a musk creating a dark spot on the cheek indicating to other elephants they are ready to mate. Elephant perfume on demand as it were. The African elephant is immediately discernable from his Asian cousin by the size of the ear flaps. Large and leaf like, the Asian elephants earflaps are one-third the size of the African species. The Asian species is the one used for domestic labor or the circus. The African species to their credit cannot be domesticated with any certainty. They just refuse to take orders. -----geoff
