During each step of the process of hand-painting this realistic faux-finish design – and particularly during the execution of this and similar take-off designs applied directly to the floor or wall as murals or faux surface treatments – a layer of clear, high gloss, concrete sealant is applied to protect the underneath surfaces and to add realistic depth to the subsequent painted design. Linoleum and certain other types of flooring materials also require a pre-paint preparation process involving the use of 3 coats of a product called Grip®. This product conditions the surface of the floor and renders it porous, so that the paint and the design treatment bond and hold to the substrate beneath. At the end of this layering process, 3 coats of this sealant are applied as a final layer. Each of these coatings is allowed to set-up and dry between 2 to 3 hours before subsequent top coatings are applied. This layering process gives the finished wall design an extremely durable, scratch-resistant, spill-resistant surface that is easy to clean. Removal of dirt, spills, grease, paint, and etc. requires no more than a simple wipe up or a light scrubbing. Should an accident occur, resulting in scrapes on the surface, touch up is a simple fix. By brushing additional sealant onto the affected area, the surface can be easily and effortlessly restored to its original beauty. This gives the owner years of carefree enjoyment.
