< < Tsunami Relief - Action Needed

I am sure that I speak for many of us here at the Artwanted community who have been shocked and saddened by this disaster in South East Asia. To some extent the world outpouring and response have heartened us as well. Many of us have given financial donations to the aid charities and others working in the region already.

Now the question is can we offer something from Artwanted? Can we set up some form of giving of our artwork, paintings, drawings? Partial proceeds of the sale of 2005 calendars, books? Can they be auctioned off to raise more money for these people who still desperately need our help?

Should we do this? Can we do this ? or something else?

Does AW have the infrastructure to be successful with this?

Lets have a discussion on this.

. . Ok people, lots of you are reading this message, but you are not replying or commenting.

So lets have some feedback?

Ok, to be perfectly honest and blunt, I DONT think AW has the "infastructure" to be successful with anything like this. They cant keep up with everything they have on their plate as it is. Theres my feedback.

Hi Richard. I don't know if AW can set this up. I think it's a wonderful idea but many people have been caught up in their local relief efforts. I also think at this point, people would prefer to send money direct to a non profit organization rather than buy artwork. Just my thoughts....

If you have the ability to print, mat and frame why don't you ask your local library to feature your work and all profits go to the relief effort. I've seen people set up outside foodstores and in shopping centers where normally they would not be allowed to "peddle" their wares. Under the circumstances and if all profits go to the relief effort, many of the local towns are relaxing their rules and ordinances regarding street vendors.

If you want to do something, go Donate to the american Red Cross or UNICEF

I doubt Artwanted could do much more than put up a link to a humanitarian organization that is giving releif. I have seen tons of sites with links for the Red Cross, UNICEF and others so there is no lack of interest.

I do a Google search and they have a link. So does ABC, MSN hotmail, and all the other major sites I have visited recently.

Here is a group of Organizations of the United Nations that are aiding the people and how you can donate.

When my Tax money comes in, that's when I'll act.

. . . . Maybe the minimum we can do is to ask AW staff to put up links to charities and donation sites? This should be a relatively easy task to accomplish.

Put it on the pages that visitors and members visit the most??

What about it AW ??

ArtWanted.com Staff 13 Jan 2005

We would love to help out, but we do agree that time is limited around here to coordinate anything major. We will be happy to place links to donation centers on our top pages. Simply post the links that should be posted, here on the message board.

Richard Murch 14 Jan 2005

. . Very good. I will email you a file of links.

sher richardson 14 Jan 2005

Good luck with the AW e- mail Richard, i mailed them 3 emails(2 a month ago) which none have been reacted upon...

Better to put the links here...they might see them quicker : )

Richard Murch 15 Jan 2005
