Rating System Changes

Over the last few months we have read everyone's comments/suggestions about our current rating system and ways that it can be improved.

We realize that there will never be a 'perfect' rating system as long as people have an opinion, but we have come up with a few things that should improve what we have. The following changes will go live on Monday July 19th, 2004 to the ArtWanted.com rating system:

1. Votes between 1 and 4 will require a comment to support their low rating. From the feedback we have seen, most people are ok with a low vote as long as the voter explains why it was given or gives some constructive criticism.

2. All members will have the option to require a comment with every rating for their own portfolio images. This will not be the default setting, but if you really don't want to see a number without a comment, you will be able to select this option for your images.

3. Members will have the ability to post an image comment, without giving the image a rating.

4. We will fix the bug that we have now, so that you can reply to comments posted on your own images.

5. We will be bringing back the old 'Top 100' report and add it to our list of top image/artist reports. This report shows the top 100 images on our site, instead of just the top ten. It also shows the results in real-time as images move up and down the rating scale.

6. We will require that an image has an average of at least 7.0 to be included on any top ten reports. This will raise the quality of the images on these reports by removing the images that are not above average.

7. Members will be able to remove any votes on their portfolio that are below a '5' from voters that have a low voting average.

8. We will be dropping the vote requirement from 500 images to 200 images for members to see the names & details of their votes in their members area.

9. We will give our members the option to show all votes for their images to the public. If you like your ratings, then you can display them for all to see. These votes will show up next to where the comments are displayed under each image.
