I'm still voting on the duels its fun but half do not even fit the titles and many have only one that fits and many doesn't fit at all. I do a lot of skipping . See many of the same in different titles that don't match either. Hard to vote on a lot of them.

Mark Peterson 20 Apr 2023

I skip a lot also Joanie, and yes many are mis-matched. That's because the computer is selecting from common key words and art media and not the actual images. I just selected on one that was an Indian and a house, the common key was computer digital, That's what the computer is picking up,

Thanks for posting your feedback and thanks for your many many art duel votes. We are glad to hear that you like it, even if you have to skip a bunch.

The Art Duel algorithm that is picking images can only go off the data that is input by the artist when they choose their media, subject and keywords for a given uploaded image. As you have seen, we too have seen many Art Duels where the title does not match the artwork displayed. However, when we look deeper at the artwork information for the two images, the Art Duel did choose the correct images based on the data on each image. The problem is that the original artist had picked the wrong subject, media, or keywords when they entered their image information. It has been very eye-opening to see how many images are miscategorized and something we want to see how we can improve.

While skipping the duel is always an option, we would encourage you to still vote for your favorite image from the two images presented, even if they don't match the common theme title.

We have made many improvements to the art selection process over the last few weeks during our beta period and we assume we will continue to improve the Art Duel image selection process over time as we get more feedback and have more data to work with. Thanks again for your feedback and keep on dueling!

I love the new feature...and yes improvement is needed, but you guys are always good at listening to the members. I thank all of you for effort, and the time you spend to make it better for all of us.

I like this feature even though it seems my work is losing more than winning. Oh, well I like my work.

I enjoy viewing and trying to really look at/decipher the art duel images by using the key words.

Joanie Holliday 28 Apr 2023

I don't see much of our terrific art Mark from AW. Very few and much of the art I'm seeing now is also nothing to do with the title but art that is mostly horror or dragons etc. blood etc. And hope not to see another woman's bare butt and beasts. And not good art either. And won't vote on one picture and the other is just a thin line with words. So many I've seen that is 100% is me saying to myself, No way. You can see I'm now getting very discouraged but keep looking to hopefully see some really good stuff. I have seen some great ones that get low scores. Doesn't make sense to me. Don't know if anyone will agree with me. Sorry, but just had to say something.

Joanie - Thanks for your honest feedback. We love getting feedback, positive or negative. We want to hear what you like and don't like about the Art Duel feature, so we can continue to improve it.

The art selection for the duels is random from the over 900,000 images on ArtWanted. However, we do choose more artwork from active members on ArtWanted over accounts that have not logged in for a while. We also favor artists that have been selected to be featured in the past, which are generally higher quality artists. The majority of the duels will have at least one image that was uploaded in the last year as well.

Please continue to send us feedback and use your SKIP and REPORT options on the duel. We are looking at this data and using it to improve the algorithm that picks the art. Since we launched the feature, we have already made several improvements to the art selection, based on user feedback. We want to continue to make this feature better and better, so thanks to all that are using the Art Duel.

It’s really been great. I have seen allot of work from different artists that had I now follow. Speaking from the photography end, I have also seen an Aweful selection of poor photography.

Mark Peterson 30 Apr 2023

Yes there is a lot of low quality work in the art duel, but I too have found a few good artist through it. I'm sure as AW continues to improve on it we will see a higher quality of work that match up.

It amazes me how people who are participating and rarely even upload any images of their own are complaining. I know Mark has many awesome images as well as others, but having participated in the Beta testing, once all comments have been evaluated it will get better.

I really like it. What I don't like is that you click on the artist, to see more of their work and possibly to follow them, and then realize they are no longer present and haven't been for a very long time. With all of the cool features here, I simply don't understand why AW isn't more popular. I have tried using simple search terms like "art prints for sale" from Google and this site is nowhere to be found. What's up with that? I don't get it - at all..... I did another traffic search and the Artwanted category didn't even come up as Print on Demand but rather something goofy, like housewares. What? Anyway, Art Duel would be a lot more fun with active users.

Cheryl - Thanks for your feedback and we are glad you like Art Duel. Because this thread is about Art Duel, we will save the discussion about Google, SEO and popularity for another thread, but we agree that the whole world should know more about ArtWanted, please help spread the word.

As for Art Duel, when we were building this feature, we had to decide how older artwork would be factored into the art duels. ArtWanted has been around for 24 years (since 1999) and has a large variety of artists over the years upload their art to the website. If we only picked art from active artists (say that had uploaded in the last 3 months), the variety of art would be very limited on the duels and would have a lot of repeat entries. In order to have more variety, we do include all artwork that has ever been uploaded to ArtWanted. This means that you will often see pieces of art that were uploaded 10, 15 or even 20 years ago to the website and some of those artists have not posted new art in a long time, but they also have never closed their accounts with ArtWanted.

This being said, we do currently give more weight in our algorithm (and duels) to artists that have logged in recently and uploaded new art. As we gather data on how this is used, we can tweak our algorithm based on user feedback. What we are hearing from you is that you would like to see more art from active members and less art from older members. If this is a common feeling from other artists, please chime in and tell us your thoughts with your comments. Thanks!

Cheryl Garman-Andrade 08 May 2023

Thanks for the quick response. I think it's a fun feature but I almost feel like I'm voting for "ghost" art. Ha ha I also liked the discontinued art rating feature. I like participating in and appreciate the feedback from activities like these. It allows me, as an artist, to figure out what other people are interested in. My other thought is that maybe this will garner interest from inactive artists that win duels? That would be cool!

Mark Peterson 19 May 2023

I have noticed that sometimes my work comes up when I am in the art duel. I wonder how many others have experienced this and click on their own art to help with their winning percentage, I don't think we should be able to click on our own art, just as we can't comment on our own art. With this being allowed as it is now... or over looked the art duel system isn't equally fare to all.

Dale Newman 20 May 2023

I have been away for a good while, I appreciate the Art Duel program. How does it benefit the memeber,ie, points or ?

ArtWanted.com Staff 22 May 2023

Mark - You are right that sometimes your own art will be shown in an art duel you are voting on. With over 76,000 artists on ArtWanted currently, the odds are technically 1 in 76,000, but it can still happen. In a way, it's a reward for using the Art Duel system to see your own work and vote on it. However, we can also exclude any artwork from showing up in a duel that you are voting on, but we would like to hear other comments from the other members if this should be done or not. Share your thoughts on this topic.

Dale - The main benefit Art Duel brings to our members is more exposure to their artwork. A secondary benefit is to see how your artwork compares with other artists on ArtWanted if that interests you.

Joanie Holliday 30 May 2023

I'm still voting but do more skipping than voting. I enjoy seeing really good and beautiful art but there is far, far less of that. As for voting on some who haven't downloaded resonate, I for one just haven't had time to anything new but never miss a day of visiting AW and commenting. I would like to see more of our AW work from our portfolios. There is such wonderful art there. As for voting on our own work if we ever see it, I think go ahead and vote on it. Since I see such low votes on some beautiful work and then top and 100% votes on a lot of really bad stuff. Sometimes I wonder what's going on. Some same thing come up very many times, like trying to get votes. So glad there is a Skip punch. Guess I've said my piece. I still keep looking. Addictive.

Joanie Holliday 30 May 2023

PLUS. P.S. Hardly ever see a title that matches or only one that does. Just vote on what I like.
