The 1937-1940 generation of Fords were popular for hot rodding as early stock car race drivers used Fords (among other cars). 1940 was the last year of this 1937 design's smaller V8 flat-head engine because a straight-six engine would be re-introduced the following year. This model was a “refresher” of the Model 48 (its predecessor) which was the company's main product. Coupe versions cost around $733 & the whole line would be designed more thoroughly in 1941.
